Or any other AI image you create for your business.
If you’re using AI generated images for your business, it’s a mistake, for numerous reasons.
More and more clients are giving me AI generated images to use on their websites, but anything you put on your website, you need to own the copyrights to, or at least have permission to use.
‼Until current copyright laws change, you’ll never own your AI logo or any other AI image you create for your business.
Do we even need to talk about the lack of authenticity and credibility here?
I’m on the internet and social media A LOT. I can spot an AI image in a nano-second, and I’ve seen some major brands using them, including some equine and agricultural brands.
If there’s an audience that cares about authenticity and credibility more than most, it’s that one!
When using AI to create as a business owner, ask yourself these two question:
- Do I own copyrights to this logo or image?
- If it’s a logo, can I trademark it?
If the answer is no to either one of those, DON’T USE IT.
⚠️HINT: The answer will be no.
Currently, U.S. copyright law requires human authorship.
Many AI tools limit how you can use the images they generate, especially for commercial use. Ignoring those rules could mean losing access or facing other consequences.
AI doesn’t sit down with a sketchpad or even use a computer to draw you a unique logo.
It pulls hundreds of little pieces of illustrations, artwork or images from all over the internet to put together what you’re asking for, which can lead to copyright infringement issues, trademark problems and more.
Combine this with the fact that AI is not going to give you higher resolution files, along with all the numerous file formats, color versions, submarks and icons you will need for a logo as a business owner (such as a vector file that at some point you WILL need for your business), it just doesn’t make sense to cut corners in this way. Curious about what should be included in a full logo package?
As a business owner, it’s vital that you actually OWN all your assets.
Bottom line is, IT’S NOT YOURS TO USE.
Be unique – be authentic – BE YOUR BRAND.
